Sunshine Coast Tanks help you weather the arid Australian weather with poly tanks to collect rainwater for irrigation, flushing toilets or washing cars and doing laundry. We build and install concrete water tanks on site and incorporate them to suit your lifestyle. Containers can be entirely or partially buried and integrated into a patio, driveway, or even a clothesline. We personalise our service for you.
Concrete and poly water tanks on the Sunshine Coast help you maintain your lifestyle despite the dry conditions in which we live. A series of pipes collect the run-off during rainstorms and divert it to the collection area for storage until it’s needed. They make you self-sufficient for water requirements, lower your water bill, and ease demand on wells and aquifers. We invite you to read about our services to see how concrete, poly or slimline water tanks can help you.
Origins of Our Arid Climate
Different scientific principles work in concert to produce Australia’s arid climate. Our journey to understanding starts at the equator where the temperatures are hot due to the sun. The sun’s rays hit the equator more directly than any other place on earth making that region the hottest. Convection currents cause the hot equatorial air to rise.
Equatorial air holds lots of moisture because of the abundance of ocean water in the area and the principle that warmer air contains more water than colder air. When the warm moist air rises into the atmosphere, it cools, and the cooler air cannot hold as much water as the warm air. The cold air squeezes the moisture out, and it rains which is why the equator is home to many of the world’s rainforests.
After it rises and loses its moisture the air is cold and dry, and currents carry it toward the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn at 30° North and South where it sinks toward the ground. The air is very dry because it squeezed out its moisture when it cooled in the upper atmosphere and the world’s deserts lay along these tropic lines.
The 30° South line cuts through the southern section of Australia making it dry. The northern tier isn’t as dry because it lays within the region where the rain falls. The vast landmass also contributes to the dryness inland because it is too large for moist ocean air to be carried there making central Australia some of the driest deserts in the world.
